PORT ALLEGANY — The annual awards assembly for Port Allegany High School was held Friday with Principal Marc Budd as the emcee for the event.
Awards were given to students in grades 7 through 12 in a variety of categories. The first awards presented were certificates of Perfect Attendance. Receiving certificates from 7th grade was Braylon Button; from grade 8 — Drew Evens, Maya Kephart, Jeannette Nichols; from grade 9 — Ian Dynda, Maycie Howard, Reagan Hutton, Terry Ireland, Sapphire Nichols, Alliyah Penick; from grade 10 — Trey Ayers, Mallory Causer, Richard Phillips; from grade 11 — Kayla Baxter, Dominick Button and Angela Smith.
Certificates of Excellence for attaining Honor Roll status during each grading period of the school year were presented to Isaac Barber, Jennifer Baxter, Alana Corey, Amber Funk, Hannah Hanchett, Brayden Pearsall, Julia Postelwait and Henry Troupe from grade 7; Noah Archer, Autumn Bosworth, Starlet Bridenbaker, Brielle Budd, Drew Evens, Isaac Fessenden, Melody Gimino, Madeline Smith, Camerynn Stambaugh and Even Stauffer from grade 8; Ryan Bowser, River Cramer, Isaiah DeBockler, Bryn Easton, Daniel Finn, Audrea Gimino, Amber Hurd, Reagan Hutton, Breana Marsiglio, Sapphire Nichols and Alexander Painter from grade 9; Gracie Archer, Drew Benson, Shannon Curfman, Jasmine Freer, Mattison Maben, Sage Mitchell, Marah Rush, and Taro Tanaka from Grade 10; Kendra Andreano, Cailey Barnett, Tara Briggs, Maleah Daniels, Trenton Dowell, Taylor Emerson, Kelsie Hamilton, Kolby Hosterman, Benjamin Lawton, Nickolas Marsiglio, Elijah Petruzzi, Madison Preston, Ashley Skinner, Angela Smith, Anna Stewart, Javon Stiles and Howard Stuckey and Brandon Tinder.
Certificates of Superior Achievement for attaining High Honor status during each grading period of the school were presented to Henry Kisler, Braylon Button, Peyton Stiles and Levi Wilfong in grade 7; Shane Lawton, Thea Petruzzi and Olivia Schott in grade 8; Abrianna Dowell, Ian Dynda and Syrus Sauers in grade 9; Mallory Causer, Bryce Coleman, Jade Evens, Bree Garzel and Caden Roys in grade 10; Mia Ambuski, Dominick Button, Joshua Conklin, Patrick Conklin, Kayla Copp, Olivia Freer and Kalyn Naylor in grade 11.
The Accelerated Reader Awards went to Levi Wilfong and Alana Corey in grade 7; Brielle Budd in grade 8; Sapphire Nichols in grade 9; Jade Evens in grade 10 and Imagine Keyser from grade 11. Brielle Budd also reached the Accelerated Reader 500 Point Club this year.
Underclass Awards for 7th Grade Geography went to Braylon Button; Student Handbook Cover Design for 2019-2020, $10, went to Lily Babcock; Biology Award went to Ian Dynda; Science Award/Bausch and Lomb — Medal and opportunity to compete for a University of Rochester Scholarship went to Mia Ambuski; 2019 Penn-York Excellence in Chemistry Award went to Mia Ambuski; Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Rochester went to Kalyn Naylor; Outdoor Sportsman’s Awards went to Kai Stauffer, Clarissa Moses, Ray Fox, Ian Dynda, Sam Andreano and Josh Kessler.
The Pastor Randy Headley Awards for Community Service were presented to Alana Corey in seventh grade, $100; Thea Petruzzi in 8th grade, $100; and Eli Petruzzi and Anna Stewart in 11 grade, $200 each.
Student Council Officer Awards, went to Jenna Sprankle, president, four years of service; Emi Tanaka, vice-president, 6 years of service; Kayla Pesock, secretary, 2 years of service and Erin Stauffer, treasurer, 6 years of service.
Peer Helper Officer Awards were presented to Keely Tarbox, president; Owen Russell, vice-president; Betty Hooftallen and Lorissa Roys — secretaries and Ryland Lawton, treasurer.
Seniors who received National Honor Society membership certificates and diploma seals were Betty Hooftallen, Kierra Keck, Nia Klein, Lorissa Roys, Ailaina Saltsman, and Erin Stauffer. Officers received the same and in addition appropriate pendants for their Honor Society pins — Keely Tarbox, president; Emi Tanaka, vice-president, Jenna Sprankle, secretary and Ryland Lawton, treasurer.

Certificate of Distinguished Excellence for attaining Honor Roll status every marking period for six years of school went to Jenna Sprankle and Keely Tarbox.
Superior Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Betty Hooftallen and Rylie Lawton for attaining High Honor Roll status every marking period for six years of school.
Grade 12 Accelerated Reader Awards went to Nia Klein and Litney Roller; the Art Award was presented to Ailaina Saltsman; the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was presented to Nia Klein; the National School Choral Award was presented to Ailaina Saltsman; the Senior Chorus Awards were presented to Owen Russell and Ailaina Saltsman; the Senior Drama Award was presented to Ailaina Saltsman, the Fred Waring/Director’s Award for Chorus went to Owen Russell.
Varsity Club Plaques were presented to those who earned 8 varsity letters during grades 9 — 12 — Kierra Keck, Keely Tarbox, Jenna Sprankle and Erin Stauffer. The Bob Davies-Lou Foy Student Athlete Award went to Rylie Lawton; the Varsity Club Scholarship of $1,000 went to Jenna Sprankle; the David Lacher Memorial Award/Female Athlete of the Year went to Erin Stauffer and the Thomas Taylor Memorial Award/Male Athlete Award went to Reese Vollmer.
The United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards went to Cierra Lannager and Reese Vollmer; the Scholastic Excellence Award went to Rylie Lawton and the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence went to Owen Russell.
Awards given to seniors enrolled in the College Preparatory Course were presented to Rylie Lawton, English Award of $200 sponsored by Ardagh; to Betty Hooftallen, Science Award of $200 given by the Port Allegany Rotary Club; to Betty Hooftallen, Mathematics Award of $200 given by the Port Allegany Rotary Club and to Rylie Lawton, Social Studies Award of $200 given by the Port Allegany Rotary Club.
The Foreign Language Awards, both for $200 and sponsored by Ardagh went to Marissa Stepp for Spanish and Lorissa Roys for French. The Elizabeth Locey Memorial Award of $1,000 went to Emi Tanaka; the Gilbert and Billie Allen Award of $500 went to Emi Tanaka, the Horatio Alger Award went to Betty Hooftallen; Jean Marie Swanson Scholarship of $8,000 each went to Betty Hooftallen and Rylie Lawton; the Larry Norton Memorial Scholarship went to Nikki Roller; the Leo Coleman Award of $1,400 went to Betty Hooftallen; The Lloyd Eastman Memorial Award of $500 each went to Lorissa Roys and Ailaina Saltsman; the Pastor Randy Headley Memorial Awards of $500 each went to Kierra Keck and Emi Tanaka; The Patricia Lloyd Memorial Award of $200 went to Jenna Sprankle; the Paul Maynard Scholarship of Courage, sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Inc. of $1,000 went to Betty Hooftallen and Kierra Keck; The Raymond Charles Varney Scholarship of $2,000 went to Jenna Sprankle; the Richard K. Entrepreneurship Club Scholarships went to Kierra Keck, Lorissa Roys, Emi Tanaka, Betty Hooftallen, Rylie Lawton, Erin Stauffer, Litney Roller and Keely Tarbox; the Gannon University Hackathon Full Tuition Scholarship for a student in grades 9-12 went to Blake McCoy; The JCC Book Smart PA Scholarship of $1,000 went to Isabella Distrola, the PAEA Higher Education Award of $300 and sponsored by the Port Allegany Education Association went to Lorissa Roys and the Bradford Ecumenical Home Award was given to Betty Hooftallen.
A new award given by the National Honor Society for Acts of Kindness was presented to Skyler Hammond.
