The 10th group of players named to the 46th annual Big 30 Charities Classic has been released. This year’s game is set for the night of Aug. 3 at Bradford’s Parkway Field.

The all-star football game, founded by Don Raabe, matches graduated senior stars from each side of the Big 30 border with New York leading the series, 22-21-2, though Pennsylvania has won three straight games, including last August’s 37-22 triumph.

Proceeds benefit area charities, and, over the first 45 years, the game has donated nearly $1.7 million to area causes.

Added today to the New York squad are Olean’s Alex Weakfall, Wellsville’s Ty Jackson, Allegany-Limestone’s Conner Golley and Frewsburg’s Dan Reinagel.

Pennsylvania’s additions are Smethport’s Noah Costa, Ridgway’s Parker Rohr, Youngsville-Warren’s Justin Eck and Eisenhower’s Ethan Chambers.

Today’s eight addees – which include each team’s kicker – bring to 74 the number of players named to the game — 37 to each roster. Eventually, both squads will number 40-plus players.

Costa is a 5-10, 170-pound kicker who will fill that role for Pennsylvania.

A two-time Defensive Player of the Year in basketball, two-time captain in soccer and a football all-star, he was also a four-time Scholar-Athlete at Smethport and a team captain and MVP in baseball.

Of the Charities Classic, he said, “As a kid I always looked up to the seniors who made the Big 30 Game and consider it the biggest honor someone can receive as a senior.”

His favorite memory playing football was “In the regular-season Coudy game, it was tied 20-20 when I went in to kick the extra point and it went square through the uprights and we went undefeated, 9-0, to become the AML North champions.”

Rohr was a 6-foot, 195-pound center-guard on offense and defensive end for the three-time District 9 champions and also played for the Elkers D-9 basketball championship team.

A member of the National Honor Society he will attend IUP and major in computer science.

His favorite memory playing football was “winning the District 9 championship against Brockway my senior year.”

Eck, a 6-foot-6, 335-pound offensive guard/ defensive tackle, he was a four-year football letterman, two at Youngsville and two after the merger with Warren. He was a two-time District 10 All-Star on defense, a Region 7 offensive and defensive all-star and Warren’s Defensive Lineman of the Year. He also is a two-time track letterman.

Eck will pursue welding and fabrication at a certified technical

school and possibly go into pipeline welding.

Of the Charities Classic, he said, “My older cousin, Jim Hillman (current Kane coach), played in the game in 1991 and I get to follow in his footsteps.”

His favorite football memories were “having a winning season – 6-4 – team bonding before games and visiting Penn State’s and the Steelers’ training camps with my

teammates.

Chambers was a 6-foot, 170-pound running back/linebacker who was Eisenhower’s Offensive MVP and Outstanding Defensive Player.

A merit honor roll student, he will become a welder.

Weakfall was a 5-foot-8, 160-pound quarterback/cornerback, who was Olean’s Offensive MVP and won the Joe DeCerbo Character-Athlete Award.

He has yet to choose a college.

His favorite moment playing football was “taking my first kickoff return to the house as a sophomore.”

Jackson was a 5-11, 200-pound fullback/defensive end who will become a police officer upon graduation.

Of the Charities Classic, he said, “My brother played in the Big 30 Game and I’m looking forward to one last chance to play.”

Golley, 5-11, 185 pounds, might be better known as one of the Big 30’s top soccer goalies and he’ll be New York’s kicker after being named to both the Big 30 football and soccer all-star teams.

He will attend Gannon University and play soccer for the Knights.

Of the Charities Classic, he said, “I love to kick for football and am looking forward to kicking one last time for this special game.”

His favorite moments playing football were “beating Portville for the chair and beating Wilson in a playoff game … stopping them at the goal line.”

Reinagel, a 6-3, 165-pound wide receiver/defensive end, received the 2019 CCAA League Sportsmanship Award in basketball.

An honor roll student, he will attend Liberty University and major in business.
