In honor of National Poppy Day today, donations for veterans will be collected today between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Collectors will be found at Save-A-Lot, Walmart and Tops Friendly Markets, and may include volunteers from American Legion 108, the Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the John C. Roche VFW Post 212.
The VFW’s Frances Sherman Auxiliary will be delivering poppies to veterans at local nursing homes today, too.
Peggy Price, the Legion Auxiliary president, said the groups count on the community to help raise money for area veterans.
“They’ve always been very supportive,” Price said of the community.
The money collected will go to local veterans organizations as well as the Liberty House in Erie — which helps homeless and needy veterans — as well as the VA in Erie.
