The Bradford Hospital Foundation and Auxiliary awarded scholarships during a luncheon Thursday at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
The foundation presented scholarships to Alyssa Ekas and Abbie Rae Kohler, both of Bradford. The auxiliary presented scholarships to Lindsay L. Ashcroft of Kane and Katherine Gorrell of Bradford.
Ekas received the Doris Winship Newton Scholarship. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Edinboro University. A 2018 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in public health, she works for the WIC program at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Kohler was presented the Benjamin O. and Blanche M. Wentworth Endowed Nurse Scholarship. After graduating high school in June, she will study nursing at Jamestown Community College.
“We are honored to remember our Bradford Hospital School of Nursing and the 600 RNs who graduated over its 60 year existence,” said Francie Ambuske, executive director, Bradford Hospital Foundation. “Both of our scholarships are given in memory of its alumni, Doris Newton in 1938 and Blanche Wentworth in 1945.”
Ashcroft and Gorrell are both nursing students at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Gorrell works at BRMC in the emergency department.
“During the auxiliary’s 84-year existence, we have given more than $600,000 to budding healthcare professionals,” said Stephanie Huber, executive director, Bradford Hospital Auxiliary. “We are so pleased to continue the work of the Women’s Auxiliary of Bradford Hospital.”
