Bradford Little Theatre has set the cast for its upcoming production of “Mourning Has Broken,” a dark comedy by local playwright Pab Sungenis.
The show will run May 17-19 at Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave., in East Bradford.
“Mourning Has Broken” was first produced at the Hudson Guild Theatre in New York in 2015. It tells the story of six close friends who have drifted apart as they have grown older, gotten married, moved for jobs and so on. When they reunite at three funerals in three months, they use their warped senses of humor to deal with their shock and grief. As they reminisce, they learn more about each other (and themselves) than they ever wanted to know.
The ensemble of friends is played by a mix of veteran actors (Barry Fitzgerald as Barry), relative newcomers (Tony Vinca as Jeff, Roy Collins II as Don, Cassie Buck as Amy) and one performer making her BLT debut, (Patti Lewis as Gabrielle).
In addition to directing, Sungenis will play the youngest of the friends, Tommy.
Candy Tingley plays Fran, a semi-professional mourner. Producer David Merwine plays the funeral home’s minister, and Eliana Lewis provides vocal accompaniment.
“Mourning Has Broken” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 17 and May 18, with a 2 p.m. performance on May 19. Tickets are $10 each, $8 for students and seniors.
Tickets can be purchased at Graham Florist, Togi’s Family Restaurant, or by calling Marcia at 598-1101.
