As the founder of the Enchanted Mountain Jeep Wrangler Club, and the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, it seemed a natural fit for Sally Nosal to organize the first-ever Extreme Terrain Go Topless Day in May.
The dice run fundraiser, slated to be held May 18 at the new American Legion Post 108 site on West Washington Street in Bradford, will donate a portion of the money raised to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
Nosal, a resident of Allegany, N.Y., said registration for the event will be held at 10 a.m. the day of the run, with the Jeeps leaving at 11 a.m. for a ride through the Allegheny National Forest. The Jeeps will make two dice run stops and win prizes along a route which will be announced at a later date. The final stop will be at the American Legion and will include food, live music by Dan Roche and Laura Friday, and basket prizes. Participants must be present to win.
“We want everyone back (at the American Legion) by 4 p.m.” to begin the after-run event, she added.
Nosal said funds will be raised from the registration fee of $25 per Jeep, with up to four riders, and the sale of event T-shirts and hoodies, which can be purchased online and picked up the day of the event. Approximately 40 people with Jeeps are currently signed up for the event.
“It’s mostly focused on the Wranglers, however we’re not excluding other people who can go off-road with their legal street and road vehicles,” she explained. “It’s got to be a four-wheel drive vehicle, too.”
Nosal noted the fundraiser is a local spin-off of a national Extreme Terrain Go Topless Day, sponsored by the Jeep parts and accessories company. The event encourages Jeep drivers and passengers to raise funds for charities from the rides and dice runs. The term topless for the event comes from the fact that many Jeeps can be driven with their hard tops, or can “go topless.”
Nosal said the event was organized after one of the members of Enchanted Mountain Jeep Wrangler Club asked if they could hold a fundraising run locally.
“I reached out to Extreme Terrain (as sponsors) and the next thing I know, we’re hosting the event,” she recalled, noting the organization is collaborating with Team Roswell. Nosal said she
Chose Roswell to help as her mother is a breast cancer survivor.
“Roswell also spearheads a lot of cancer research, so we reached out to them to see they would interested in sponsoring this,” she added.
In providing background on Enchanted Mountain Jeep Wrangler, Nosal, also known as Chili Bear, said she started the club last July with two other people.
“We only had three members. We now have over 270 members,” Nosal remarked. “We are based along the Southern Tier, Northern Pa. border.”
In addition, Extreme Terrain will match the event up to the first $500 raised for the charity.
Nosal said that a portion of the shirt sales go directly to Roswell, therefore those who can’t attend the event can at least help with the cause by purchasing a shirt.
