Bradford track teams split in DuBois

DUBOIS — Mike Bosworth and Tyler Kraft both tripled to help the Bradford Owls boys track and field team stay unbeaten with a 93-50 victory over DuBois on Tuesday.

Bosworth picked up his victories in the 100 (11.7), the 400 (57.7) and on the 400 relay team, while Kraft notched wins in the 800 (2:07.4), the 1600 (4:54.9) and as part of the 1600 relay team.

Meanwhile, Josh Mackey set personal bests in both the shot put (40-8) and discus (115-7) to win both events, joining teammates Jake Pattison (400, 1600 relays) and Donny Pattison (200, 400 relay) as double winners.

Pattison won the 200 in 24.6 and Gabe Mitchell claimed the 3200 in 10:51.5 to help Bradford win every run but the 3200 relay.

“Gabe Mitchell ran a great race in that 3200,” Bradford track coach Tom Tessena said. “He beat his guy right at the end as did Ryan Cottillion who finished third.”

Bradford improved to 5-0 on the season with the victory.

“The meet was delayed quite awhile because it was really raining hard when we got there,” Tessena said. “We were debating on whether to even run it, but it was nice to get a win. We do have a lot of places to bolster up before Punxsutawney in two weeks.”

The Owls also had several personal bests on the track Tuesday, including Dylan Phillips’ first place finish in the 110 hurdles (15.6) and Alex Liners in the 110 and 300 hurdles (16.9 and 42.6, respectively).

Tessena also highlighted the personal bests of Nate Blauser in the high jump (5-8), Mitch Signor in the discus (103-0, second place), Quentin Minard in the 1600 (5:06) as well as the 4X800 relay team of Mitchell, Steve Morgan, Ryan Cottillion and Jerid Wilmoth in 8:52.4.

Bradford heads to the McDowell Invite in Erie on Saturday.

DUBOIS — The Bradford Lady Owls dropped their first meet over the season on Tuesday with a 103-38 defeat to DuBois.

Fenice (100, 200, 110 hurdles) and Fischer (long jump, triple jump, high jump) tripled to lead the Lady Beavers.

Bradford, meanwhile, earned its victories on the track with Mikah Watkins claiming the 400 (65.6), Emily Bosworth the 800 (2:20.6) and Hannah Lary in the 1600 (5:36.6). Bosworth missed the school record in the 800 run by just under half a second.

The Lady Owls (4-1) also won two of the three relays. The identical quartet of Marissa Miller, Lary, Mackenzie Lucas and Bosworth placed first in the 1600 (4:23.7) and the 3200 (10:37) relays.

“It was good to get a meet in,” Bradford girls track coach Larry Stillman said. “We really needed one not having ran in 10 days. It was a really good showing from everyone who was there.”

Abby Nuzzo also notched a first-place finish for Bradford in the javelin with a throw of 89-11.

Stillman also pointed out the return of two of his throwers, who helped the team after being out for nearly a month.

“Ally Luke and Jessica Kerr had both been out for around three weeks but they came back today,” he said. “Luke took second in the shot put and third in the discus and Kerr third in the shot put. It’s nice to have them back.”

Jessica Fox recorded personal bests and third-place finishes in both the high and triple jumps for the Lady Owls.
