Children will be able to scavenge for Easter eggs, courtesy of an Easter egg hunt being hosted by Bradford City Fire Department at Callahan Ice Rink on April 13.
With excitement in her voice, Bradford City Fire Department Lt. Cathy Mealy told The Era that the city has hosted Easter egg hunts for nearly half a century.
“We’ve been doing it over 40 years; we’re going to be pushing 50 years soon,” she said. “I know the kids really love it.”
There will be three age groups for children eager to harvest Easter eggs: 2-4 years old, 5-7 years old and 8-10 years old.
Mealy explained the reasoning behind hosting the hunt inside the ice rink is because weather frequently hinders the event and makes for a muddy hunt.
The hunt will kick off at 11 a.m. and is usually over around noon, according to Mealy.
“Once the kids are done, then we hand out prizes,” she said.
“Every kid walks out with an Easter basket and candy –– it’s a nice ‘happy Easter’ message.”
