WESTFIELD — It certainly wasn’t the start that the Otto-Eldred baseball team drew up for its 2019 season opener.
The Terrors gave up four runs to Cowanesque Valley in the opening inning and found themselves down by a 4-0 mark heading into the third inning.
But O-E began chipping away at the Indians’ lead, cutting it to 4-3, before exploding for six runs in the top half of the seventh inning to stun Cowanesque Valley and take a 9-4 season-opening victory.
“Everything went well after that first inning,” O-E baseball coach Jame Thomas said. “I’m pretty proud of the boys today; we committed no errors and had no walks.”
After starter Andrew Sheeler lasted just two-thirds of an inning, the trio of Cole Sebastian, Chase Sebastian and Jake Merry held CV scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
At the dish, Sheeler went 3-for-3 with a double, T.J. VanScoter 2-for-4 with two RBI and Chris Connelly added two hits and two RBI.
The Terrors (1-0) host Port Allegany today.

WESTFIELD — Otto-Eldred’s Abby Wolfe had nine strikeouts in her first career varsity game to lead the Lady Terrors to a 6-5 win over Cowanesque Valley in high school softball Monday.
Wolfe gave up six hits and one walk during her victory.
“We looked good offensively. We looked a little rough in the field, but it was nice to get our first win,” said O-E coach Roger Veilleux. “Abby (Wolfe) is a freshman, and this was the first high school game she ever threw. She did a really nice job.”
Pacing O-E at the plate were Emmalee Sheeler with an RBI double, Reiley Raught, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs and Gabby Nickerson, who went 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
Sharing the mound for Cowanesque Valley were Ashleigh Southard, who gave up nine hits and recorded three strikeouts, with relief help from Makayla Bargeson, who gave up one hit and had two strikeouts in two innings.
Leading the CV offense was Carmen Short, who went 2-for-4 with a home run.
Otto-Eldred looks to extend its win streak on home turf today as the Lady Terrors host Port Allegany.
