Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) will host auditions at 6:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at Togi’s Playhouse for its upcoming show titled “Mourning Has Broken.”
The show will be performed May 17-19.
Jessica Ann Coder, with BLT, said the play was “written and directed by local playwright Pab Sungenis.”
“Those auditioning should come promptly at 6:30 p.m. and be prepared to do a cold reading from the script,” she said. “We’re looking for nine adult actors for this ensemble show.”
Sungenis describes the play as, “Six friends, three funerals, too many secrets. It’s time to put the ‘fun’ back in ‘funeral.’”
According to BLT’s Facebook page, nine adults, both male and female and of various ages, are being sought to play the characters for the show.
Barry, a mid-30s male, is a lawyer. His philosophy is best summed up in the words of Walt Kelly: “Don’t take life too serious, it ain’t nohow permanent.” Barry is a joker, prankster and full of love of life. How much of this is a façade for his true feelings is uncertain.
Jeff, a mid-30s male, is a stockbroker. He is financially comfortable but is restless and slightly aimless. He keeps asking himself, “Is that all there is?” He is jarred by the deaths of Mark and Hank to do something drastic to find purpose in his life.
Gabrielle is a female in her late-20s to mid-30s. She is British with a distinct accent only slightly tempered by years in the States and is married to Don. She is a relative latecomer to the circle of friends but is accepted by the others as if she has been there since day one. She has just found out she is pregnant, which is leading to a major change in both her and Don’s life.
Amy, a female in her early 30s, is sort of the glue that holds the circle together. She is gregarious but never loud, as well as caring — sometimes too much. Some of her secrets get revealed over the course of the play, changing the way some see her.
Don, a mid-30s male, is Gabrielle’s husband. He is creative and ill at ease in formal situations like funerals. He is afraid of change, which is a major problem considering what he and Gabby have in mind, and have kept secret from the others.
Tommy, a male in his early 20s to early 30s, is the younger brother of Hank, a member of the circle that the other friends have not seen in a while. He is bipolar with other possibly undiagnosed conditions. Over the years, he has become the honorary brother of everyone in the group, and he will need them because, unbeknownst to most of the group, Hank is dying of cancer.
Fran, a woman in her mid-60s or older, is a professional mourner.
The Minister, any age, is a disinterested eulogist.
The singer/musician, any age, is very poor.
