PATTERNS: Have you ever found shapes in the clouds? Or patterns in a leave?
It’s the nature of the mind to look for recognizable shapes.
We received a phone call on Thursday afternoon from Ellie Lathrop, a Bradford resident, who said she came across a pattern on an unusual place –– on a potato chip!
Ellie’s chip displays what appears to be a crucifix, showing that one can have a religious experience even while snacking on some chips.
Ellie told us she had been snacking on some Lay’s potato chips when she discovered one that had what she described as a “perfect cross” on it when she grabbed a handful of chips from the bag.
To be honest, we were a bit skeptical of Ellie’s claim at first and couldn’t quite picture a cross on a potato chip. However, our skepticism was debunked, as Era photographer Wade Aiken captured a photo of a potato chip that truly had a cross on it –– holy chip!
Ironically, Ellie said she came across the chip on Ash Wednesday. She assured us she has no plans of eating the chip.
Instead, she has displayed the chip near her television.
We were curious to see if religious images on food were common, so we Googled it. We found an image of Jesus in a frying pan, on a pizza, in a coffee cup, on toast and a tortilla. Interesting.
