Amid the crazy weather and numerous cancellations, the Bradford Businessmen’s Chess League held its 2018-19 awards program Wednesday along with a pizza party at School Street Elementary School.
The top three junior varsity teams are Tasta Pizza, first; Dr. Gonzalez, second; and BRMS, third.
Individual JV champions include Cooper Haight (Dr. Gonzalez) in first place; Kadyn Tessena (Dexter’s Service Center) and Tim Mulcahy (BRMS) tied for second. Other individual champions were Owen Troisi (Hamlin Bank) first on board 2; Vincent Addotta (Williams Agency) second on board 2; and Matthew Wareham (Tasta Pizza) third for board 2. Board 3 champs include Lucas Hinchman (American Refining Group) in first; Micaiah Ferguson (Tasta Pizza) half a point behind in second; and Caleb McAndrew (BRMS) in third.
The top three varsity teams are Wood Chiropractic, first; Prestige: Watch & Jewelry, second; and Burns & Burns, third.
Individual varsity champions include Greg Henry (E & M Engineers & Surveyors) and Todd Hennard (Hennard Construction) tied for first to be reigning co-champions for the 2018-19 Businessmen’s Chess League. Mike Jones (Wood Chiropractic) finished third overall. On board two, Ray Greene (Prestige: Watch & Jewelry) and Mark Caminite (A Slice of the 80s) tied for first, making them the reigning champs for board two. Tied for third place on board two are Peyton Haight (Wood Chiropractic), Jim Mongillo (Main Street Mercantile), and Larry Causer (Burns & Burns).
Twelve Bradfordian chess players are headed on to the State Chess Championships March 1-3: Tim Mulcahy, Kadyn Tessena, Cooper Haight, Peyton Haight, Aiden Ferguson, Micaiah Ferguson, Deidra Johnson, Trenton Johnson, Violet Papinchak, Penelope Papinchak, Owen Troisi and Rob Ferguson. This will be Bradford’s 39 consecutive year to participate.
While this concludes the annual Bradford Businessmen’s Chess League, the chess club will continue to meet at the Bradford Area Public Library the last Tuesday of the month, and more tournaments are coming up before the end of the school year.
