A felony charge has been added against an Emporium man accused of threatening to kill several people.
Shayne A. Sage, 28, now faces a new charge of terroristic threats, a third-degree felony, in addition to 22 charges filed last earlier this month: 11 counts each of terroristic threats, first-degree misdemeanors, and harassment, summaries.
Sage waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
According to the criminal complaint, overnight between Feb. 14 and 15, Sage called his mother at her Bradford residence.
Angry, he told her “that if he can’t see his children he is going on a killing spree” that would start with him killing her, the complaint stated. “Sage said he is tired of being ignored and he will get everyone’s attention. Sage told his mother to start watching the news to see what happens.”
Altogether, Sage listed targets including his mother; a grandmother; the two mothers of his children; and all seven of his children, who are between the ages of 6 months and 14 years, according to court records.
Due to Sage’s mental instability due to his use of drugs including methamphetamine, his mother fears he is capable of following through on his threats. She told Bradford City Police that “her son’s drug use has increased and he has in the past resorted to physical violence on many occasions,” the complaint stated.
Bradford police notified law enforcement in New York state, where most of the alleged targets live, to have them be on the lookout until Sage was apprehended. Emporium-based state police were also asked to help locate Sage, as he told his mother he was living in a wooded area in Emporium.
Sage, who was denied bail, has been incarcerated since Feb. 15 in McKean County Jail.
Drug charges against Olean, N.Y., man bound to court
Drug charges against an Olean, N.Y., man were bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Jerome M. Hayes, 32, of 116 King St., Olean, is charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony; possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary public drunkenness.
The criminal complaint alleges that at 1:25 a.m. Jan. 1, a Bradford City police officer responded to a report of a large fight in front of the Corner Bar, located at the corner of Mechanic and Barbour streets. The officer arrived to find a number of people fighting in the street, including Hayes and a woman named Crystal Sweetwine.
While the officer talked to Hayes and Sweetwine, who were both intoxicated, they were yelling and swearing at the officer and at other people from the fight, the complaint stated. The officer warned the pair to stop yelling or they would be arrested for disorderly conduct.
Hayes allegedly continued to yell and swear, so the officer told him he was under arrest and started to handcuff Hayes. While the officer was handcuffing Hayes, Sweetwine ran over, reached in Hayes’s right front coat pocket and pulled out items including a baggie of crack cocaine; the baggie contained an estimated 5.2 grams of crack cocaine, according to court records.
The officer immediately took the crack cocaine from Sweetwine and searched Hayes’s person, finding $1,270 in cash in his left from coat pocket, the complaint stated.
Hayes is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000.
