One of two people charged in the alleged assault of a baby girl will face one additional felony charge when she appears in McKean County Court for the case.
Alana N. Dinch, 20, of 81 Rochester St., Bradford, is now charged with aggravated assault-attempts to cause serious bodily injury under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, a first-degree felony.
Dinch and Jonathon J. Burke, 25, also of 81 Rochester St., had preliminary hearings scheduled for today before District Judge Dominic Cercone. Dinch’s case was bound to McKean County Court, while Burke waived a hearing.
The pair was charged after a 3-month-old girl in their care suffered serious injuries including hemorrhages on her brain, a fractured skull, a broken rib, contusions and swelling to her face.
Police alleged that Dinch shook and squeezed the infant and struck her with a chair, then Burke and Dinch failed to seek medical treatment for the girl for several days. Dinch told police she threw the chair at Burke, and it bounced off him and hit the infant in the head.
Dinch is also charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, first-degree felonies; aggravated assault of a victim less than 6, second-degree felonies; three counts of simple assault, first-degree misdemeanors; and one count of recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Burke is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a first-degree felony, and recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Burke is free, having posted $50,000 bail, while Dinch remains in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
