Bradford, St. Marys split Thursday swim action

Bradford and St. Marys swimmers split the night Thursday during Bradford’s Senior Night.

“We have six seniors: all of them play a really important role on the team in a lot of different ways. While it is exciting to see them move on, it is sad to see them go,” said Chelsea Schwab, Bradford coach.

Emma Webster and Mackenzie Lucas each had a quadruple event winning night, while Julia Moini had three event victories as the Bradford girls’ swim team claimed a victory over St. Marys, 86-82. The evening wasn’t so kind to the boys, however, as St. Marys took home the victory, 64-45.

“The girls had a standout night. Everybody was really on the ball tonight; they had great times in the water. We saw some great performances, especially in the 500 freestyle, with a second by Emily Reitler and third by Abbie Nuzzo. The fourth by Hannah Kreiner helped us climb in the numbers,” Schwab said. “We were lucky to have Abby Zoke back tonight. She has been out for a couple weeks due to illness. She had a great performance in the relays and was second in backstroke.”

St. Marys took first place in just the 200 free, 500 free, 100 breast and 200 free relay with the Lady Owls claiming victories in the seven other events.

“The girls’ 400 freestyle relay B team really blew it out of the water. The 1-2 finish gave us the points we needed to get ahead of St. Marys.”

The Owls’ Karl Gangloff claimed a win in the 200 free and a second in the 100 free, while Tyler Sortore won the 100 backstroke and Aiden Wright took first in the 500 free.

“The boys all had solid swims. They know what they’re dealing with, going into meets with only four boys tonight,” Schwab said. “We saw great performances from all of them tonight, especially Aiden Wright in the 500 free.”

The Bradford girls are now 2-3 on the season, while the boys fall to 0-5. The final dual meet of the season for the Lady Owls and Owls will be in Clearfield one week from today (Friday).
