    Lady Owls fall to Punxsy; NTL girls roundup

    PUNXSUTAWNEY — Riley Presloid scored a game-high 18 points and unbeaten Punxsutawney rolled to its 14th straight win Friday with a 55-23 decision over Bradford.

    Backing Presloid was Kate Horner with 10 points as the Lady Chucks also remained perfect in the District 9 League with a 3-0 record.

    “Punxsutawney has a nice team and they shot well tonight,” said Bradford coach Bob Hannon.

    The hosts took control of the contest early and by halftime were up by 13 points, 23-10. In the second half it was all Punxsy, the Lady Chucks outscoring the Lady Owls 32-13.

    High scorer for Bradford was Hannah Lary with nine points.

    “Morgan Tyger had a very good defensive game, blocked some shots and played well,” noted Hannon. “Emily Warner came off the bench, got a couple big buckets for us and rebounded well.”

    Bradford (2-10, 1-3 D-9) begins a three-game home stand on Monday, with the Lady Owls hosting Otto-Eldred.

    Smethport 29, Austin 27

    AUSTIN — Smethport rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to pull out a 29-27 thriller over Austin in their girls’ North Tier League game on Friday.

    Trailing 14-11 at the break, the Lady Hubbers made up the deficit and took the lead 21-19 at the end of the third quarter. The teams each scored eight points in the final eight minutes allowing Smethport to hang on for the win.

    “I give Austin (0-14, 0-10) credit because they gave us everything that we wanted tonight,” said Smethport coach Chad Goodman.

    Two Lady Hubbers came up with solid individual efforts that drew praise from their coach.

    “I thought that Mykayla Deyarmin stepped up (11 points) for us this evening with the injuries that we’ve had this season and really proved what kind of player she can be,” said Goodman. “Also, Kaleigh Sanderson (seven rebounds) stepped in as a starter for us and played a great game and really contributed to the win.

    “I’m proud of my team for going on the road and picking up a big win for us,” Goodman emphasized.

    Smethport, 2-11 overall, hosts Otto-Eldred on Tuesday.

    Port Allegany 60, Oswayo Valley 30

    PORT ALLEGANY — Cailey Barnett and Bree Garzel combined for 36 points to lead Port Allegany to a 60-30 victory over Oswayo Valley in girls North Tier League basketball action Friday.

    Barnett led all scorers in the game with 20 points and Garzel added 16 and had seven steals and pulled down five rebounds.

    Backing the pair were Cierra Lannager and Jade Evens with five rebounds each and Erin Stauffer with three steals.

    The Lady Gators led 31-4 at halftime and put another 29 points on the board in the second half to nail down their 10th win of the season.

    “It was a good way to end a rough week,” said Port Allegany coach Jamie Evens. “We lost three of four games, but tonight we shot well and that opened things up. Everyone played.”

    High scorer for the Lady Green Wave (4-11, 3-7) was Karina West with 17 points.

    Port Allegany (10-4, 7-4 NTL) hosts Olean Archbishop Walsh in a non-league game next Tuesday.

    Cameron County 47, Northern Potter 27

    ULYSSES — Northern Potter’s scoreless first quarter opened the door for Cameron County which used it to anchor a 47-27 victory in their North Tier League game on Friday.

    With the Lady Panthers unable to get a shot to drop, the Lady Red Raiders (11-4, 9-2) took a 9-0 lead after one, pushed it to 21-10 at the half and eventually stretched their advantage to the final 20-point (47-27) victory margin.

    Kaelee Bresslin’s 14 points and Hailey Hilfiger’s 10 tallies led Cameron County.

    High scorer for Northern Potter was Abbi Anderson with a game-high 15 points.

    The Lady Panthers, 7-7 overall, travel to Oswayo Valley on Tuesday.

    GALETON — Coudersport’s Shaelyn Black and Sarah Chambers combined for 33 points to lead the Lady Falcons to an easy 55-14 victory over Galeton in North Tier League action on Friday.

    Backing Black (21 points) and Chambers (12 points) was Rosalyn Page with nine points.

    Pagano and Kalacinski each scored six points for the Lady Tigers.

    The Lady Falcons improved to 10-1 in league play while Galeton fell to 3-8.

    No additional details were received.
