No one was injured in a house fire in Shinglehouse Wednesday afternoon.
According to Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department’s Chief Doug Estes, a house located at 32 Butter Creek Road in Sharon Township was deemed a total loss after the department was dispatched around 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday.
Estes said as far as he knew, there was only one occupant in the house and she had left just before the fire began.
“The building was fully involved when I got there,” he said, discussing the severity of the fire when fire crews arrived.
Assisting Shinglehouse were New York-based Bolivar Fire Department and volunteer fire departments from Elma, Portville, and Allentown. Coudersport Fire Department was put on standby at Shinglehouse’s fire station. According to Estes, tankers and a small stream near the residence supplied crews with the water used to combat the fire as well as class A extinguishers.
The cause and monetary value of damage has not yet been determined as the incident is still under investigation.
