SMETHPORT — Smethport Borough Council agreed Monday to re-advertise for bids for the borough’s 2011 police car after rejecting three quotes at their December 2018 meeting.
After hearing from Police Chief Pat Warnick during Monday’s meeting, council accepted his recommendation to seek new bids via Municibid, an online auction website where municipal governmental agencies sell their surplus directly to the public.
There is an acceptable minimum bid, and the successful bidder will be charged an eight percent fee. Council reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
One person spoke to council during the public comment portion of the meeting. Council, with only four members present — the minimum to constitute a quorum — approved the weekend of June 22 for the third annual “Arts on the Island” slated for Hamlin Lake Park after hearing a request from Bart Barton, chairman of the event, which is sponsored by the McKean County Historical Society. “We’ll soon make a decision whether this will be a one- or two-day event,” Barton said.
Fireworks and a car show are to be on the event’s schedule.
In another vote, council approved a resolution approving proposed by-law amendments, strategic plan and dues structure of the Pennsylvania Municipal Electric Association, the non-profit corporation trade association that provides certain services to the 35-member Pennsylvania boroughs of PEMA, each of which owns and operates electric distribution systems, providing electric service to their residents and businesses.
Kent Herzog, chairman of councils’ electric committee, was appointed PEMA voting delegate. Ryan Yingling is the alternate delegate.
In other business, council also approved the following reappointments during the brief meeting:
• Zoning hearing board: Mick O’Brien;
• Borough of Smethport Authority: Ben Ball, Pete Mader and Brian Swanson;
• Hamlin Lake Park Municipal Authority: Patty Witchen and Darleen Dorward; and
• Tax collection committee delegate and alternate, respectively: Sue Jordan and Mary Jo Kreiner.
Nick Melnick, a consultant, was approved as an alternate appointee as a sewage enforcement officer.
