The Bradford Area Public Library will host its annual New Year’s Eve party for children from 11 a.m to noon on Monday.
The party gives young children a chance to celebrate the start of the new year without staying up until midnight. The event always ends with a countdown, just like the one that happens later that night.
According to Youth Services Assistant Judy Carr, the event is free to the public and will have Mary Poppins as its theme.
“We have a little cafe that we’re setting up for refreshments. We have Josh Brown: he’s gonna be our DJ. We have a few photo op areas set up for kids to get their pictures taken,” Carr said.
“The DJ will be playing kids music –– like the hokey pokey and the limbo –– and I will be dressing up as Mary Poppins for the kids,” she said with a laugh.
She said her goal is to make the event “really special for the community,” and she explained that last year’s event was successful and estimated an attendance of around 75 participants.
“(Last year,) we had Mart’s Bubblegum Machine and we enjoyed him; it went really well,” she said. “I hope that all the families come in and join us on New Year’s Eve.”
