Although the Clarion River travels throughout Elk and Clarion counties, the pristine and scenic river will soon be traveling all over the world.
The Clarion River is featured in the United State Postal Service’s new Wild and Scenic River Forever stamp set. The photo featured on the stamp was captured by Bob Wick, a wilderness specialist for the Bureau of Land Management.
“This issuance celebrates wild and scenic rivers — exceptional American streams that run freely through natural landscapes without man-made alterations,” said Tad Kelly, USPS spokesperson. According to Kelly, the pane of a dozen different designs features photographs that represent the more than 200 rivers or river segments designated within the Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
The images featured pane of stamps were taken by the following photographers: Merced River, Owyhee River, Koyukuk River, Niobrara River and Tlikakila River, all by Michael Melford; Snake River, Flathead River, Skagit River and Ontonagon River, all by Tim Palmer; and Missouri River, Deschutes River and Clarion River, all by Wick.
