O-E tops OV in tourney; NoPo, Coudy win big

DUKE CENTER — Otto-Eldred rolled into the championship game of its Randy Stebbins’ Tournament with a 43-24 win over Oswayo Valley Friday night, but the real test for the Lady Terrors comes today.

O-E will take on Portville in the girls championship game starting at 5 p.m. Friday, the Lady Panthers topped Bradford 47-33.

“In our first four games, we played a lot of kids, but Saturday will be the real test,” said first-year O-E coach Shawn Gray. “Portville is well coached and like us, they like to get up and down the floor. They play hard.”

Otto-Eldred broke out to a 17-5 lead over OV in the first quarter and led 28-9 at the half with little left to do by wait for the final buzzer.

Nine players put points on the board for the winners led by Reilly Raught with eight points.

Morgan Dalton pulled down four rebounds and came up with 4 steals, while Lauren Cousins had 6 steals and Jadelyn Spinney had 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

“Our kids are looking forward to the challenge and are ready to go, but are going to have to shoot a little better,” Gray emphasized.

Game scoring honors went to Karina West with 15 points.

COUDERSPORT — Sarah Chambers and Roselyn Page combined for 31 points to lead Coudersport to a 56-24 victory over Galeton in girls North Tier League basketball action Friday.

Chambers scored 19 points and Page added an even dozen. Chambers’ point total included all four of the Lady Falcons’ 3-point field goals.

“Sarah’s four threes were big for us,” said first-year Coudy coach Bob Tingley.

The Lady Falcons took control of the game right from the tip-off, opening a 21-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. A 20-point second period and some stingy defense that gave up only two points, made it 41-12 at the half and Coudy had the game under control.

“We’re getting better every game,” Tingley pointed out. “We’re doing the little things better. The kids are getting use to me, too, and down the road we’ll be a decent team.”

High scorer for the Lady Tigers was Brielle Kalacinski.

Coudersport (2-3, 2-1 NTL) travels to Austin on Tuesday, while Galeton will be at home hosting Cameron County.

    Smethport 23, Austin 18

SMETHPORT — Smethport outscored Austin 15-8 in the second half and held on for a low-scoring 23-18 victory over Austin in their girls North Tier League basketball game on Friday.

At the end of the first half, the visiting Lady Panthers were on top 10-8.

“The second half was the story of the game,” said Smethport coach Chad Goodman. “We limited our turnovers and the game was won from the foul line.

“I’m happy for the girls who got their first win of the season. We’re looking to build off that for the next game,” Goodman pointed out. “Our bench played a huge part in tonight’s victory with players fouling out.”

Individually, Erin Herzog controlled the boards for the Lady Hubbers, pulling down 10 rebounds. She also accounted for eight points to share high-scoring honors with teammate MyKayla Deyarmin.

    K. Valenti led Austin with eight points.
