Two cases against Buffalo, N.Y., man bound to court
Two criminal cases against a Buffalo, N.Y., man were bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone, court records stated.
Damien L. Coley, 35, who was free on unsecured bail in both cases, did not appear, and a request for a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Charges in one of the cases stem from a 2016 assault at Country Fair in Bradford that involved several people; many of his co-defendants’ cases have already been resolved.
In that case, the criminal complaint indicates that at 2:34 a.m. Dec. 18, 2016, Bradford City Police were called to the fight report, and while officers were trying to disperse the crowd, Coley was standing near them, appearing intoxicated, talking to himself and pacing.
Police asked Coley to leave, and he allegedly became confrontational and stated they had his driver’s license. He started pulling items out of his pockets, and a small baggie of marijuana fell out, the criminal complaint stated.
When police later viewed security footage from the store, they saw Coley punch Matson Stewart multiple times while Stewart was on his back, and he was pulling on Stewart’s legs while Stewart was on the ground, according to court records.
In the second case, at 4:27 p.m. Jan. 6, 2017, Bradford City Police were dispatched to the Uni-Mart on Chestnut Street for a report of a disorderly patron. The patron — an intoxicated Coley — allegedly walked into Uni-Mart, sat at a table and began pounding on the table and making threatening comments to the clerk, according to the complaint.
The clerk told Coley to leave several times, and when Coley refused, the clerk called police. Coley left, then walked back in the store to tell the clerk “he’d be back to take care of him,” court records stated.
Coley is charged in the first case with conspiracy to commit simple assault, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, all misdemeanors, and summary counts of public drunkenness and harassment; in the second, he’s charged with misdemeanor defiant trespassing and summary disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Bradford man waives hearing from alleged standoff
A Bradford man waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges stemming from an alleged standoff in September in Bradford.
Frederick W. Angell II, 28, is charged with terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor; and summary disorderly conduct.
According to court records, police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance involving a man with a gun at Angell’s residence just before 9 p.m. Sept. 26.
While officers were underway to Angell’s 14 Blaisdell Ave. home, several calls came in to the McKean County 9-1-1 Center of shots fired in that area.
Police reported they briefly saw Angell outside the home, then he went back inside, barricaded himself there and armed himself with a shotgun. While Angell was on the phone with a dispatcher from the McKean County 9-1-1 Center, he made threats to kill law enforcement officers, police stated.
Officers were able to get a female and her children out safely and the neighborhood around the home was evacuated as a precaution, according to police. Congress Street was closed, and area streets were blocked as well.
Eventually, he peacefully surrendered to police.
No injuries were reported.
Angell, who had been incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail, was is free on after paying $2,500 percentage bail.
