The City of Bradford’s Downtown Historic District will put out the welcome mats and recognize the national ‘shop small’ movement by celebrating ‘Shop Small Business Saturday’ on Saturday.

“The initiative, sponsored by American Express, began several years ago and has been very successful in raising awareness for small businesses,” said Main Street Manager, Anita Dolan, “We have always promoted the ‘shop local’ theme for the holiday season, however, to have a national day specifically set aside for it at this time of year really gives our small local businesses an extra boost. The holiday season is the time of year when many retail businesses bring in the bulk of their revenue for the year.”

Many of Bradford’s downtown merchants will host in-store specials, sales and refreshments.   Participating retail businesses include the Main Street Mercantile, Tin Ceiling Gift Shoppe, Graham Florist, Fluffy Baby Boutique, On The Side Bookstore, Ott & McHenry Pharmacy, Man’s World, Little Fabric Garden and Wright’s Music Shed. Dolan also reminds shoppers that gift certificates are available from the downtown restaurants and hair, nail and tanning salons.
