Port Allegany vball stays perfect in NTL

PORT ALLEGANY — Jenna Sprankle came up with 26 assists and Port Allegany rolled to its 13th straight North Tier League volleyball victory with a three-set (25-14, 25-12, 25-16) sweep of Northern Potter on Wednesday.

Sprankle also recorded five aces as the Lady Gators (13-0) drew closer to clinching the league title.

Port got some help Wednesday night with Coudersport’s three-set sweep of Otto-Eldred, which was holding down second place in the league with two losses. Both the Lady Falcons and Lady Terrors now have three losses.

“We have (a few) league matches left, so we haven’t clinched it yet,” said Port coach Pam Terrette.

One more league win will assure the Lady Gators of a tie for first, and they remain favored to win it all.

Backing Sprankle, who also had 5 aces, were Kalyn Naylor with 10 kills, Tierra Keck with 7 kills and 6 digs, and Erin Stauffer with 5 kills and 7 digs.

“We had a player out with an injury, Kayla Pesock, but our younger girls stepped up and played well,” Terrette pointed out.

Port Allegany (14-3 overall) hosts Galeton today.

Leading NoPo Wednesday night were Marissa Bliss (6 kills, 6 digs); Megan Hyde (3 aces, 9 digs) and Savannah Herring (3 kills)

The Lady Panthers (2-12 NTL) host Galeton Monday in their “Dig Pink Night” match.

    Galeton 3, Oswayo Valley 1

SHINGLEHOUSE — Erin Cimino had four kills and two blocks and Marika Lechler added four kills and three aces to lead Galeton to a four-set (25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18) triumph over Oswayo Valley on Wednesday.

For Oswayo Valley (7-9, 3-10), Naomi Cook (3 aces) posted seven kills, five assists and 13 digs, Macy West (2 aces) had seven kills and 10 digs and Karly Carpenter chipped in seven kills and four blocks.

Galeton improved to 7-6 in league play with the victory.

    Cameron County 3, Austin 0

EMPORIUM — Alyvia McKimm’s 15 assists helped Cameron County post a three-set (25-17, 25-12, 26-24) sweep over visiting Austin in North Tier League volleyball action on Wednesday.

McKimm also had four aces in the match and three digs. Backing her was Morgan Lorenzo with 7 aces and 3 kills.

Cameron controlled the first two sets, but in the third set the Lady Panthers were determined not to go down easy, losing by a 26-24 score.

Leading the visitors were Angeline Watson with 1 kill, 6 digs and 4 aces; Taylor Brewer with 2 kills, 5 digs and 4 blocks, and Amber Brandt with 5 digs, 15 assists and 3 aces.

Both teams return to action today, the Lady Red Raiders (9-4 NTL and overall) traveling to Otto-Eldred, while Austin hosts Oswayo Valley.
