SPARTA, IL — Corre Smith of Eldred has been named to the Amateur Trapshooting Association 2019 All American junior second team.
Shooters recognized with this honor compete across the country at various venues including state competitions which concludes at the Grand American in Sparta, Illinois held this year at the beginning of August.
The ATA’s competition year ended on Aug. 31. Each athlete must meet several requirements including competing in three different states championship events where the combined shooter registration exceeds 450 paid entries.
Corre made trips to the Northeast Grand last September held in Cicero, N.Y., near Syracuse, as well as several trips to Elysburg at the Pennsylvania State grounds, Marengo Ohio’s Cardinal Center and the long road trip to Sparta, Ill. for the Grand American. While at the Grand on Aug. 10 — along with celebrating his birthday — Corre was in two shootoffs concluding with being named the Class A doubles champion and Junior Handicap runner-up.
His other accomplishments to note this past year include: S.C.T.P. Pennsylvania All State Team Captain (placing 2nd at the S.C.T.P. National Championships), Pennsylvania’s All State Team, nominated for Pa. Trap Shooter of the Year, winning or placing runner up in over 40 events throughout the year, and making the “back fence” 27 yard line in handicap events.
Corre registered 4,800 singles, 4,300 handicap and 4,200 double rounds. His practice rounds far exceeded those registered throughout the year with well over 30,000 rounds shot at the orange clay targets.
Corre expressed his thanks to the many individuals, including coaches Howie VanScoter and Randy Sanderson – and groups that made it possible for him to travel to and compete in the required shoots.
