Bradford woman receives probation for theft charge

SMETHPORT — A Bradford woman was sentenced to 18 months probation for retail theft and ordered to a local substance abuse treatment as soon as possible during sentencing in McKean County Court Thursday.

Tami McCormick, 41, had entered a guilty plea in court on retail theft Sept. 6 when tests conducted at the courthouse found she had controlled substances in her system. McCormick, who was incarcerated for that offense 15 days until Thursday, was reproached by McKean County Senior Judge John Pavlock for her use of controlled substances the last time she appeared before him. Pavlock said he had “grave concern” for McCormick’s well-being and her ability to stay away from drug use before entering treatment at Maple Manor when a bed becomes available sometime in October.

In addition to probation and treatment, other conditions of McCormick’s release include that she visit the McKean County Probation office twice a week for substance abuse testing; and serve 60 hours of community service.
