A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail for allegedly having a marijuana growing operation in his Bolivar Drive home.
Wade Bunker, 49, of 647 Bolivar Drive, is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a first-degree misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to court records, on Monday, a School Street Elementary School teacher notified School Resource Officer Tony Lama that an 11-year-old student reported a marijuana growing operation at 647 Bolivar Drive, and said that Bunker was growing it.
The child reported the same information to Lama, and was specific about where the marijuana was located inside the home, according to the criminal complaint.
Bradford City Police and the McKean County Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for the residence, and searched with the assistance of Foster Township Police. Within the residence officers found marijuana hanging to dry and marijuana in multiple rooms of the residence. In the attic, officers found potting plants, hanging grow lamps, buckets of dirt and items used for cultivating plants. An officer found a passageway into the rear of the attic, but there were no plants being grown there at the time. Throughout the attic, there were “visible loose (leaves) of marijuana (lying) about the floor. It was apparent this attic had been used to start and grow the plants most likely from seedlings,” the probable cause stated.
Officers found paraphernalia inside the residence as well. Outside, officers located an electric cord running to a ditch, where a small dam had been created to supply water to an irrigation line at the rear of the property. Following the line, officers found a can containing Miracle Grow near three adult marijuana plants. Fresh dirt in the area and three holes that had been dug up led police to believe someone had recently harvested more plants, the probable cause alleged.
When interviewed by police, Bunker admitted to growing the marijuana, and said it was for personal use, not sale, according to the probable cause.
In addition to the drug charges, officers filed charges of endangering the welfare of a child against Bunker. The probable cause indicated the marijuana was being grown and used in front of the child and was in areas where the child could have accessed it.
Bunker was arrested and arraigned Monday night before on-call District Judge David Engman, and remanded to McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Sept. 27.
Also on Tuesday, Emporium-based state police charged Bunker with harassment by communication. At 9:58 p.m. Sept. 13, Bunker repeatedly contacted a “former paramour,” a 47-year-old Emporium woman who did not want any contact with him, police said.
He has been charged through District Judge Barry Brown’s office in that case.
