The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will observe its annual Founders’ Day celebration from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Bromeley Quadrangle.
The public is welcome to enjoy a free lunch of hot dogs, potato chips and cupcakes and meet Dr. Larry Feick, interim president, and Dr. Scott Kane, the university’s new vice president and dean of student affairs.
There will also be music, a photo booth and Pitt-Bradford prizes for the first 350 guests to try their luck at the Pitt-Bradford lollipop tree. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.
The Founders’ Day celebration began as part of the university’s 50th anniversary in 2013 and has continued yearly on the anniversary of the campus’s opening on Sept. 3, 1963.
Pitt-Bradford was founded with intense community support as a two-year regional campus of the University of Pittsburgh housed in downtown Bradford and at Hamsher House at Bradford Hospital.
In 1967, the Witco-Kendall Corp. donated the site of the former Harri Emery Airport for the current campus along the Tunungwant Creek in Bradford Township.
Pitt-Bradford became a four-year institution in 1979 and now has more than 40 majors and 50 minors. The campus has been recognized by several national organizations, including, most recently, Washington Monthly Magazine, The Princeton Review and Colleges of Distinction.
