Week 0: Coudy scores 71 against Cameron County

COUDERSPORT — Coudersport’s Hayden Keck and Stephen Kelly combined for six touchdowns in the first half as the Falcons opened their new District 9 League football schedule with a 71-0 win over Cameron County on Friday.

The duo did all their scoring in the first half as the Falcons built a 51-0 lead

In the opening quarter, Keck capped an 11-play drive with a 14 yard scoring run.

Kelly got on the scoreboard with a 61-yard kickoff return following a Coudy safety recorded by Travis Gleason, and then broke free for a 23-yard score.

Keck also ran for two PATs and Logan Rogers kicked a PAT for a 25-0 Falcons lead as the first period came to a close.

Keck found the endzone twice in the second stanza scoring on runs of 17 and one yard, and Stephen Kelly capped his night with a 41-yard run.

Mason Klesa got his chance to carry the ball and plunged into the endzone from three yards away. Rogers split the uprights with a pair of PAT kicks and the hosts headed into the locker room at the break up 51-0.

There was no scoring by either team in the third quarter.

“We got off to a good start and played a lot of kids,” said Coudy coach Tom Storey. “We weren’t trying to run up the score, but you can’t tell kids not to play. Overall, it was a good game for our starters, and our young kids showed a lot of potential for the rest of the season.”

The reserves put the final 20 points of the game on the board in the final period.

Devon Nelson raced 12 yards to paydirt, Dylan Kelly rumbled 25 yards for six points and Josh Powell raced 65 yards for the Falcons final touchdown. Dylan Kelly also ran for a two-point conversion to account for all 71 Coudy points.

“This was our first opening win since the old AML days,” said Storey, whose team did not attempt a pass Friday night. All of its 368 yards of offense came on the ground led by Steven Kelly with 104 yards on five carries.

Coudersport returns to action next Friday at Elk County Catholic.

Elk County Catholic 34, Curwensville 14

CURWENSVILLE — Stephen Bobby ran for three touchdowns and Mason McAllister threw for a pair of six-pointers to lead Elk County Catholic to a 34-14 victory over Curwensville in their opening game of the new District 9 League format on Friday.

McAllister got the Crusaders on the board first with a 30 yard pass to Leo Gregory and then in the third period found Hunter Cashmer open for an 18-yard strike.

Bobby started his big night with a 5-yard TD run in the second period and then snuffed out any Tide hopes of a rally with  pair of touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.

Bobby, who finished with 166 yards on 26 carries found the endzone in the final period on runs of 20 and 41 yards as the Crusaders upped their lead to 34-7.

Gregory had a solid night kicking, converting four of five extra point attempts.

Curwensville scored in the second quarter on Noah VonGunden’s 21 yard pass to Jake McCracken and in the fourth stanza on a 15 yard Blake Passarelli run.
