ROULETTE –– “God’s country” is about to become even more devout.
Roulette’s new school, Potter County Christian School, is currently accepting enrollments. The school’s ministry will be run in conjunction with the First Baptist Church of Roulette. Potter County Christian School says it is tailored to the needs of students and will allow students to work more at their own pace. The school will also have a low teacher-to-student ratio and will strive to meet each student’s specific needs.
Principal Bruce Greene described the new school as “a ministry arm of the First Baptist Church of Roulette and seeks to help interested students.”
Greene shared his optimism for gaining interest from local areas by explaining, “We hope to draw students from all the local school districts — Port Allegany, Coudersport, Smethport, Austin and Oswayo Valley.”
According to Greene, public busing will be provided, but families from further districts must furnish their own means of transportation.
“Our first year we are offering first through 12th grade. We hope to add kindergarten next year. Please contact us if you or someone you know may be interested,” Greene said.
The inaugural school year at Potter County Christian School will begin on Sept. 10. Greene held back no excitement when describing the school and its mission.
“Being a ‘Christian’ school is not in name only. We approach education, not as an end in itself, or even a means to a selfish end –– make more money, get a cushy job, climb the academic or social ladder,” said Greene. “We believe, as the Apostle Paul said in his letter to Timothy, that we should strive to help students become “a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.”
Greene added that the schools is accepting donations to help it start out in a stable financial position. “We started a ‘Founders’ Club’ and a ‘Finishers’ Club.’ The Founders’ Club is individuals, families or businesses that would donate $500 between now and December 15 to help jump start the school on a solid financial footing. The Finishers’ Club is those who would commit to donate any amount monthly to PCCS.”
