The McKean County Fair begins today at the fairgrounds in East Smethport with SPCA day.
Donations for the animal shelter will be collected all day.
From 9 a.m. to noon today, pre-registered exhibits will be accepted. A livestock weigh-in will take place at noon on the mini stage. At 1 p.m. will be a pet show, judging of exhibits and rabbit judging. At 5 p.m., Sunshine Shows Amusements open on the midway. At 6 p.m., a dog obedience obstacle course will be held with Karen Benson and the Olean (N.Y.) Kennel Club. At 6:30 p.m. will be the Droopy Ears basset hound adoption. The grand parade will be held at 7 p.m., followed by a mounted shooting exhibition at 7:30 p.m. “Nobody to Blame” will perform at 8 p.m.
Tuesday is Energy Day. The Mobile Energy Education and Training Unit will be available all day. Chicken judging will take place at 8 a.m., followed by the 4-H/Open horse show and open dairy show at 10 a.m. The Ag Lab will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunshine Shows Amusements will open at 5 p.m. The “Unknown” perform at 6 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday is one of the fair’s special events — FMX Motocross.
Wednesday is Veterans Day at the fair. Veterans and active duty personnel with proof of service are admitted free onto the grounds all day. The Mobile Energy Education and Training Unit will be available all day. At 8 a.m., 4-H/Open judging for swine, beef and sheep; and a goat show. The Ag Lab will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. Amusements will open at 5 p.m. A miniature horse pull will be held at 6 p.m., and the Dark Water Duo will perform a veterans program on the mini stage at that time as well. A talent contest will be held at 7 p.m., and truck/ side-by-side drag races will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday is Senior Citizens Day at the fair. Seniors, 62 and over, will be admitted free onto the grounds all day. At 10 a.m. will be the open horse show. At 1 p.m. a senior citizen’s program will be held with music by Ronan & Geci. From 1 to 9 p.m., the Ag Lab will be open. At 5 p.m., the carnival opens. At 6 p.m. will be the 4-H livestock sale. Tim Hollamby will perform at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. will be a special event, the Rush Late Model Touring Series races. From 9 to 11 p.m. will be a barn dance. The Eagle Dreams Birds of Prey will be featured at times to be announced.
Friday is Farm Safety and Family Day at the fair. Pepsi Family Day activities begin at noon in the track area. The Ag Lab will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. From 1 to 5 p.m. will be Touch A Truck. At 3 p.m. will be pony rides. The carnival opens at 4 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. will be a goat obstacle course and animal dress-up. At 6 p.m. will be a performance of the Birch Street Boys. At 7 p.m. is another special event, the Painted Pony Rodeo. The Battle of the Bands contest will be held at 8 p.m. The Eagle Dreams Birds of Prey will be featured at times to be announced.
Saturday will be Priority Care Ambulance Day and fire prevention day. Local fire personnel are admitted free all day with proper identification. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be fire department demonstrations. The carnival opens at noon. At 1 p.m. will be the karaoke contest. The Ag Lab will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. At 3 p.m. will be a beautiful baby contest. At 5 p.m., will be an auction of items made by glass blower Ryan Gothrup. At 6 p.m. will be a special event, the demolition derby. At 8 p.m. will be the coronation of the McKean County Fair Queen. The Eagle Dreams Birds of Prey will be featured at times to be announced.
Also through the week will be Dino Roar of Ohio, Ryan Gothrup glass blowing, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Gravitational Bull the juggler, the McKean County Historical Society display, bingo in the grange building and Swifty Swine pig races.
