    Mount Jewett Swedish Festival opens today

    MOUNT JEWETT — The Mount Jewett Swedish Festival opens today at 6 p.m., with a ceremony and crowning of festival royalty at St. Matthews Church.

    Also today, Bubbles the Clown will be roaming the festival from 6 to 9 p.m.; amusement rides will be open on Center Street from 6 to 10 p.m. The band Lady Bug and the Walrus will be performing at the Center Street stage from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The prince and princess contest will be held from 7:30 to 8 p.m., and coloring contest winners will be announced, all on the Center Street stage.

    The game “Minute to Win It” will be held on the stage from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by the band Trixx from 9 p.m. to midnight. The firehall will host a DJ from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for those age 21 and over.

    The Leif Erickson Viking Ship will be on display all weekend in front of the St. Matthews Church.

    Saturday events:

    9 a.m.: A children’s bike race will be held at the former Keystone building (for children ages 3 through 12)

    10:30 – 11 a.m.: Alberta’s pie contest will be held at the Boy Scout booth

    11 a.m. – noon: The Lilly Silly puppet theater will be held at the Center Street stage

    11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: The Swedish meatball contest will be held at the Heritage Park Gazebo

    11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Nebo Chapel will be hosting an open house

    Noon: A chicken barbecue will be held at the Mount Jewett fire hall

    Noon – 3 p.m.: A smorgasbord will be held at the St. Matthews Church

    Noon – 4 p.m.: A car and bike show will be held at the fire department’s lower lot

    Noon – 5 p.m.: Amusement rides will be available on Center Street

    Noon – 5 p.m.: The Little Red School House petting zoo on Main Street

    12:30 p.m. : Maypole dance at St. Matthews Church lawn

    12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Crown Gospel Band at St. Matthews Church

    1 – 3 p.m: Jockular the Juggler will be roaming the festival

    1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Twin Tiers Band on Center Street stage

    2 – 4 p.m.: Caricature artist Eric Jones at Center Street

    2:30 – 3:30 p.m.: McKean County Fair Queen contestants, Center Street stage

    3:30 – 4 p.m.: Marty’s Bubble Gum Machine kids dance at Center Street stage

    4 – 5 p.m: Birch Street Boys band at Center Street stage

    5 p.m.: Parade

    6 – 10 p.m.: Amusement rides open

    6 – 6:30 p.m.: Junior king and queen contest at Center Street stage

    6 – 8 p.m.: Caricature artist Eric Jones on Center Street

    6:30-7:30 p.m.: Alberta’s pie auction and winner announcements at Center Street stage

    8-11 p.m.: DTK band on Center Street stage

    9 p.m.-1 a.m.: 100 Proof band at the firehall

    9:30 p.m.: Fireworks

    Sunday

    8 a.m.: Check in for Bob Swanson 5K Memorial Run, which starts at 9 a.m.

    Noon-4 p.m.: Little Red School House petting zoo on Main Street

    Noon-5 p.m.: Amusement rides

    12:30-1 p.m.: Pet and bike parade on Main Street

    12:30-2 p.m.: Hard Luck Rangers band at Center Street stage

    1 p.m.: Human foosball at the fire department lower lot

    1-2:30 p.m.: Hamlin Station Band, Heritage Park gazebo

    2 p.m.: Softball game, old timers versus youngsters, community park

    2:30-4 p.m.: Kane guitar choir, Center Street stage

    4-5 p.m.: Family Feud, Center Street stage

    5-6 p.m.: J.I.M. Band on Center Street stage

    6 p.m.: Closing ceremonies, Center Street stage
