A Smethport woman has been jailed on allegations that she assaulted a state trooper who was responding to a report of a domestic incident Saturday at her home.
Cheyenne E. Smith, 27, of 18372 U.S. Route 6, of East Smethport, was arraigned early Saturday morning before District Judge William Todd on charges of assault of a law enforcement officer, a first-degree felony; two counts of simple assault and one count of resisting arrest, all second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment and criminal mischief, both summaries.
According to the criminal complaint, about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to Smith’s home for a report of a domestic incident. Kane-based state police and Smethport Borough Police went to the scene.
The complaint stated that police talked to Dan Smith, who said Cheyenne Smith hit him several times while they were arguing. Police then tried to talk to Cheyenne Smith; however, she had allegedly placed a freezer and stove in front of the door and lay on top of them to prevent officers from coming inside.
She got off of the appliances, stuck her middle finger up at the officers and swore at them, telling them they needed a warrant, court records stated.
Trooper Alex Wissman tried to push through the door and could see the appliances were being moved; Cheyenne Smith allegedly began to shove the door against him. Once Wissman was inside, Smith began throwing punches at him, striking him in the chest several times; she reached for his neck and ripped his uniform, too, according to the criminal complaint.
Police were able to get Smith on the ground and arrest her. Once she was under arrest, she tried to smash her head off the ground, and police had to hold her head off the ground, court records stated.
Smith was incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
