Beaver, Godding light up Pine Acres in Penn-York action

It looked for a while like it might be a soggy day on the links in Bradford on Monday. But thankfully, the rain held off at Pine Acres Country Club for the fourth week of play in the Penn-York Junior Golf League.

Seventy-five young golfers from the Keystone and Empire states teed off across seven different divisions. The top of the girls leaderboards were nearly identical to last week, with all three divisions seeing repeat winners. On the other side, the boys divisions saw four different winners as opposed to last week’s play at Wellsville Country Club.

Taking top honors on the boys side was Ethan Beaver of Cardinals Hills, who paced Division I (ages 16-18) with an impressive 3-over 75.

“My ball-striking was perfect all around,” Beaver said. “I was able to save a few pars from around the trees. If I hit my driver good, my scoring is usually good.”

Beaver is the fourth different Division I champion in four weeks.

Elyse Godding earned another first-place finish in Division I girls (14-17) on her home course by shooting an even-par 36 over nine holes. Despite recording a double bogey on the fourth hole, Godding was able to birdie the par 3 third and the par 5 sixth.

Kamdyn McClain (Bartlett) shot a 77 to win the boys Division II (14-15) with a 77 for his third victory of the year. McClain’s Bartlett club-mate Talan Stitt won Division III (12-13) with a 45 for his first victory of the season.

Olivia Schott (Coudersport) repeated as girls Division III winner with a score of 64, her third victory this year. Emma Edwards (Olean) also notched her third win by winning Division IV with a 56 from the modified tees. Rounding things out with a win in Division IV (11 and under) was Tyler Salvaggio (Bonas) with a score of 42 from the modified tees. It was his first victory of the year.

The final week of Penn-York action will take place next Monday, July 30, at Bartlett Country Club.
