Changes to the state’s fireworks law are offering customers the sky — sort of.
On Tuesday, Keystone Fireworks’ manager Alisa Sanchez added some clarification to the recent changes in Pennsylvania’s firework laws.
The most significant changes, she said, are with where the fireworks are meant to go off.
“Previously the law stated that PA residents could only buy safe and sane fireworks –– nothing that would go into the sky,” she explained. “Before the changes, PA customers could only choose from about 10 percent of the store; they have a much bigger variety to choose from now.”
She said Pennsylvania residents can purchase and use consumer-level shell fireworks.
“You can buy and set off shells at a consumer level. But professional-grade shells are still illegal,” Sanchez said.
Professional-grade shell fireworks are the type of fireworks typically seen at Fourth of July celebrations, Old Home Days, the Italian Festival, etc.
Sanchez made it a point to reiterate that despite the increased variety in what Pennsylvanians can now purchase, restrictions, such as age requirement, required distance from structures, etc.; remain the same.
As to what products are the most popular, Sanchez referred to cakes (fireworks) and mortars as their best sellers.
“They are going to be the most exciting items we have.”
Sanchez also noted that Keystone Fireworks is prepping for its busiest time of year. “The two weeks around the Fourth of July is the busiest time of year for us,” she said.
