Patients looking to obtain medical marijuana locally will have to wait a bit longer for the facility to open in downtown Bradford.
“We ran into some redesign issues. Hopefully we will be opening by the end of July,” said Dr. Glen Mesaros, chief medical officer of DuBois Wellness Center LLC.
Hangups are “essentially better patient flow and security,” he told The Era on Thursday.
The outside of the former Mexican restaurant looks the same –– with La Mixteca Mexican Restaurant still written on the building at 109 Main St. and the front door reads Downtown Grill. Meanwhile, the inside looks at least somewhat gutted.
In April, Mesaros said officials were hoping for a late May opening, pending state inspection/approval and before that, by the end of March. Plans also called for the facility to receive a certificate of occupancy Jan. 18, pass inspections required to begin operations Jan. 20 and start operations Jan. 25.
The pharmacy will be just under 2,000 square feet. Initially, there will be seven to 10 employees.
Mesaros said previously the property would be gutted to “create a welcoming, state-of-the-art medical facility that meets the requirements of the state and will exceed the expectations of our patients.”

Dispensaries have opened in Pennsylvania, including 2105 N. Atherton St., State College; 201 Pillow St., Butler; and 5600 Forward Ave., Pittsburgh.
The Medical Marijuana Program became effective May 17, 2016, and is expected to be fully implemented this year.
