The Cattaraugus County Museum and Research Library will host its third annual “Family Day at the Museum” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16.
The event, which will take place during New York State’s spring Path Through History Weekend, will provide programming for the entire family.
To begin the programming, the WNY Fiddle Kids will perform at 12:30 p.m. The Fiddle Kids, led by Heather Pennington of East Concord, range in age from 9 to 18 and will put on a performance of traditional fiddle tunes. This will be their third appearance at the museum.
The group has visited Bradford to perform at both the Crook Farm Country Fair and Music Festival and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
At 2 p.m., the museum will host an educational program on local birds of prey given by Wild Spirit Education of Delevan. Wild Spirit, founded by Paul Fehringer, is dedicated to educating the public about the natural world in addition to its work rescuing and rehabilitating sick, injured and orphaned wild animals.
In addition, visitors can participate in the “Pioneer’s Journey” hands-on educational program and watch a blacksmithing demonstration on-site. Boy Scout Troop 627 will sell hot dogs and other refreshments for lunch.
The Cattaraugus County Museum is located in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16 in Machias. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, call the museum at (716) 353-8200 or visit the website at cattco.org/museum.
