A section of East Main Street near the Eagles Club is crumbling, and has been blocked off by Bradford City streets department officials.
Chip Comilla, director of parks and public works, explained on Friday that caution posts have been placed around a crumbling section of a parking lane on East Main Street near the Eagles Club.
“We’ve got to tear it up and find out what’s underneath it,” he said. “We can’t tell anything until we lift the deck up.”
Several years ago, a portion of the road in that vicinity was crumbling, and the workers were able to fix it by filling in an area underneath where the concrete had dropped and shifted.
“In 2015, down closer to the Eagles, we were able to dig it up and put a patch in under it,” he said.
He said there has been no parking between signs, which would mean vehicles weren’t permitted to park on the street in that section. However, it wasn’t enforced.
Comilla inspected that area recently. “It gave me concern,” he said. “There was a crack.”
It is on the list of projects to tackle soon, as it will require more than a patch to the road’s surface.
“We’re going to get to it as soon as we can,” Comilla said, “as soon as we have enough people.”
It’s a busy time of year for street crews.
Meanwhile, Comilla has put up reflective yellow poles to caution people against driving or parking there.
While the Eagles Club is a polling location, and the primary election is Tuesday, Comilla said there are still plenty of places to park. The blocked off area covers about the equivalent of five spaces.
“There’s a parking lot out back, and there’s other street parking there.”
