The Port Allegany High School Chamber Choir has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Jan. 20.
The choir is among nine groups invited to perform in the program titled “Every Life Shall Be A Song: A Choral Concert featuring the Works of Women Composers and Lyricists.”
The 50-voice ensemble, under the direction of Ken Myers, is comprised of auditioned students in grade nine through 12th. This will mark the third Carnegie Hall performance for the Chamber Singers, one in 2015 and another, 2017.
Chamber Singers also performed at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Crimson Hawk Cavalcade of Choirs May 1.
The group was adjudicated by Dr. Kyle Zeuch, director of choral activities at Olivet College; Dr. Ryan Beeken, director of choirs at IUP; and Craig Denison, assistant professor of choral studies and music education at IUP.
The Port Allegany singers performed a short program of acappella music and were critiqued on areas such as pitch, rhythmic accuracy, diction, vowel formation, blend, expressiveness and professionalism, scoring the highest ratings in 16 of the 18 categories from three adjudicators.
At the conclusion of the program, Zeuch provided a clinic with the group, working on specific repertoire.
