    Lady Owls defeat Elk Catholic

ST. MARYS — The Bradford girls track team took advantage of the nicest day of the season on Tuesday by defeating Elk County Catholic 93-56.

The Lady Owls took first in every event except the 3200 (Hannah Lenze), 100 hurdles (Taylor Newton), high jump (Taylor Newton), shot put (Samantha Fedus), discus (Samantha Fedus), and javelin (Fritz).

“It was a very nice team victory on the first nice day of the season,” Bradford coach Larry Stillman said.

Leading the way for the Lady Owls was Ashton McGriff, who notched a quadruple performance. McGriff took first in the 200 (25.6), 300 hurdles (47.8), and triple jump (34-0), and also ran in the winning 1600 relay with Emily Bosworth, Hannah Lary, and Erica Marshall, who ran a winning time of 4:18.5.

Emily Bosworth and Regan Johnson both won three events each.

In addition to leading off the winning 1600 relay, Bosworth also won the 800 (2:33) and the 1600 (5:55.4). Johnson, meanwhile, anchored the winning 400 relay (52.1) with Logan Sunafrank, Alexis Huber, and Erica Marshall (who earned a double), and also notched wins in the 100 (12.5) and long jump (15-11.5).

Mikah Watkins added a win in the 400 (1:07.0) to cap a great day in the running events for the Lady Owls.

“Ashton, Regan, Erica, and Mikah dominated the sprints and hurdles, and Emily Bosworth won the mid-distance races,” Stillman said.

Three other Lady Owls won a pair of events: Hannah Lary ran in both the 1600 and 3200 relays; Logan Sunafrank ran in the 400 and 3200 relays; and Alexis Huber won the pole vault (9-0) and ran in the 400 relay.

“Our pole vaulters, led by Alexis Huber, all had season and personal bests, and our jumpers Mikayla Bond and Alexis Brown had their best jumps of the year,” Stillman said.

Bradford will return home on Tuesday to host Punxsutawney for Senior Night.
