Miscues lead to big inning in Owls loss to Brookville

BROOKVILLE — A pair of defensive miscues led to five third-inning runs for Brookville as the Raiders defeated Bradford 6-4 on Monday.

Brookville led off the third with three hits, and it looked like the Owls might be able to limit the damage. But a pair of Bradford errors — two of four in the game — kept the inning alive and allowed the home team to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead.

“We were almost out of it, but we kicked the ball around and they scored three more runs,” Bradford coach Andy Carlson said of the pivotal frame.

Brady Caylor got the win for Brookville, going five innings and finishing with three strikeouts and two walks. Caylor also had two hits at the plate, while Evan Shields had three knocks for the Raiders (3-4).

For Bradford (4-5), Adam Boyer notched an RBI double, while Hunter Gray and Patrick Caskey both had RBI singles. Dan Manion added two singles.

The Owls will be back in action this afternoon when they host St. Marys.

COUDERSPORT — A pair of big innings helped the Falcons roll to a six-inning victory over Smethport on Monday.

Coudy scored four runs in the first frame and then five more in fifth to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Eli Ayers led the way with a two-run home run in the first inning, while Blake Burgett went 3-for-4 with a double.

Burgett also got the ‘W’ on the mound, working four innings while striking out four and walking just one. Kullen Crosby notched four strikeouts and three walks out of the bullpen.

“Blake did a good job on the mound keeping them off balance,” Coudy coach Doug McClintic said. “Eli had a really nice game at the plate but also in the outfield. He took care of the ball really well.”

Brant Howard had a double for Smethport (1-5).

The two teams will play again this afternoon, this time at Smethport.

    Cameron County 20, Galeton 2, 5 innings

GALETON — The Red Raiders had the bats working, and along with some Galeton miscues, rolled to a big win on Monday.

Adam Shaffer led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, while Dino Brown, Marcus Brown, and Adam Brown all had 2 RBI, and Bryce Bauer added a triple.

On the mound, Marcus Brown went four innings and struck out nine while allowing zero walks.

Cameron County used a six-run first inning to break things open, and then 10 runs in the fifth to seal the deal.

“It was nice to come out strong and finish that top of the first,” CC coach James Cooney said. “It gave Marcus some confidence on the mound.”

Galeton’s (0-5) Jake Cochran and Seth Succowich combined for four strikeouts and eight walks on the mound.

Cameron County (5-6) will travel to Smethport on Thursday.
