The fight to end hunger in the community moved a step forward Monday, as the proceeds from the Empty Bowls and Baskets event at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford were presented to the Friendship Table.
Each year the event is held to raise money to fund the non-profit work of the Friendship Table, with this year being no exception.
Committee members from Pitt-Bradford were in attendance to present a donation check to the Friendship Table for this years event.
Dr. Holly Spittler, associate dean of student affairs and director of career services, Carma Horner, student and disability resources and services coordinator and Sean Defazio, president of the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, presented the check for $2,500.
Representatives from the Friendship Table staff and board members Barb Shufran, director of the board, Harrijane Moore, treasurer and Joe Doriguzzi, assistant director, and Rev. Seth McClymonds accepted the funds on behalf of the soup kitchen.
During the event’s 13-year run, the Empty Bowls and Baskets event has raised over $25,000 for the Friendship Table.
The Friendship Table is a place for people to gather for food and fellowship. There are no questions asked, as they do not discriminate. All are welcome.
