    Bradford track splits with DuBois

The Bradford track and field teams fought cold and rainy conditions on Tuesday during their dual meets against DuBois.

The boys improved to 5-0 with a 96-54 victory over the Beavers, while the Lady Owls lost by a single point, 75.5-74.5

Jaron Ambrose led the boys with a triple as well as a second place finish. Ambrose won both the 110 (15.8) and 300 hurdles (43.4) and ran in the 400 relay, while placing second in the high jump with a personal best height of 5-8.

Nate Blauser also had a triple with wins in the triple jump, 1600, and 3200 relays. His 38-8.75 in the triple jump was a personal best.

Logan Caruso and John Eakin both doubled, with Caruso winning the 1600 (4:57) and 3200 (10:53), and Eakin topping the shot put (57-0) and discus (144-7).

“Those were some pretty good throws off of wet throwing circles,” BHS coach Tom Tessena said.

Tyler Kraft and Jake Pattison both doubled, with Kraft running the 1600 and 3200 relays and Pattison running the 400 and 1600 relays.

Derek Sunafrank won the 400 (54.9) and also anchored the 1600 relay.

Ryan Whittemore had three second places in the shot put, javelin, and discus.

Steve Kellam took first in the pole vault in another personal best of 12-3. Gabe Mitchell had two second places in the 1600 and 3200.
Dylan Phillips had personal bests in the 110 hurdles (16.3), 300 hurdles (45.4) and the triple jump (37-4.5) for two thirds and a second place.

David Allen and Cade Hayden both ran in the 3200 relay. Donny Pattison anchored the 400 relay to a victory and took second in the 200 and third in the 100 for a solid day.

Matthew Stafford was on the winning 400 relay before retiring for the day with an injury.

Josh Mackey placed third in the discus (99’4”) for a personal best. Freshmen Spencer Whittemore (javelin) and Quentin Minard (3200) also took thirds.

“This was our third meet in six days after having only one meet in the first four weeks of the season,” Tessena said. “We were definitely hurting today. We need to get some of our guys back and get some other guys who din compete healthy. Districts are just 23 days away and we have quite a bit to get done before then. Hopefully we can build on some of these performances today.”

On the girls side, Ashton McGriff led the Lady owls with a quadruple performance. McGriff took first place in the 200 (26.2), 300 hurdles (47.6), triple jump (33-9), and 1600 relay.

Regan Johnson, meanwhile, tripled in the 100 (13.0), long jump (16-2.75), and 400 relay.

Earning doubles for Bradford were Erica Marshall (400 relay, 1600 relay), Emily Bosworth (1600 relay, 1600), and Alexis Huber (pole vault, 400 relay).

“It was a very close meet between two closely-matched teams,” Lady Owls coach Larry Stillman said. “It’s always a good meet with Coach Sullivan’s teams.

“It was a very good and competitive meet. We did a lot of things very well but came up short at the end. We did see some nice improvement with our sprinters and hurdlers.”

Alson winning for Bradford were Hannah Lary (3200), Logan Sunafrank (400 relay), and Mikah Watkins (1600 relay).

Both Bradford teams will be at the Harbor Creek Invitational on Saturday.

Emma Fox (400 relay, long jump, triple jump) and Shaylee Caulkins (200, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) tripled for the Port Allegany girls.

“The weather conditions weren’t too good, and it was a little wet,” Port Allegany track coach Aaron Clark said. “But we used this as a nice meet for practice. I put some kids in spots they aren’t usually in and they stepped up to the challenge. We had a lot of youth across the board and I tried to put the younger kids in good spots to succeed.”

On the boys side, Clark highlighted Bryce Baker, who won the 200 and on the 4×400 relay.

“Bryce had a really competitive time in the mile,” Clark said. “It killed the rest of his races but he stepped up to the challenge.”
