Firefighters battled a wildfire for several hours Monday off U.S. Route 219.
There were no injuries, reported Bradford Township Fire Chief Dan Burkhouse.
According to Burkhouse, firefighters were dispatched at 1:34 p.m. to the hillside off the west side of Route 219 just north of Hot Dog Tommy’s. About 30 firefighters from Bradford Township and Lewis Run volunteer fire departments responded. Also, five U.S. Forest Service personnel assisted firefighters due to the fire’s proximity to the Allegheny National Forest.
Bradford Township Police assisted by transporting firefighters to and from the fire using the township’s UTV, he said. Personal four-wheelers were also used.
Burkhouse added that several other fire companies were on standby, including Bradford City, Derrick City and Corydon and Lafayette townships.
The wildfire was about 12 acres in size, he said.
It was contained around 6 p.m. and out by 7:25 p.m.
The fire was ruled accidental, but the cause is still under investigation, Burkhouse said.
