WRITERS GROUP: Donald Neal of Bradford tells us his inspiration for this new poem is Colette Roessler, the adult programming and marketing director at Bradford Area Public Library.

The Writers Group

Something new was started in our little town,

By a young lady whose interest was clear.

She started a local writers group,

But sadly it hasn’t lasted a year.

She wanted to show the talent that we have,

In this little American town.

But it seems nobody can be bothered.

Their talents will never be known.

I know there are authors and poets,

With a lot of time to spare.

I guess they don’t want to show their talents,

Or maybe they just don’t care.

I have written maybe too many poems,

It is something to do when you are old.

I write about peace and happiness.

And what our future may hold

I want to thank that young lady,

For all she has done for me.

And for the programs she has started,

At our city’s public library.

For all the effort she has shown,

And the effect on our community.

Just visit your public library,

And soon those effects you will see.

If you are an author or a poet,

And if you write about what is on your mind.

Come to our library and share those thoughts,

It will make a better community you will find.

The time is the last Monday of every month,

At three-thirty in the afternoon.

Come and share your talent and thoughts,

The group is called Creative Share. Participants are invited to the library to present poems, songs and other creative writings they have penned.

LOUIE LOUIE: On this day in 1964, the FBI announced it was unable to determine if the song “Louie Louie” as recorded by The Kingsmen was obscene. It had been tasked with trying to decipher the lyrics after several complaints were made about them.

“The FBI Laboratory advised the record was played at various speeds but none of the speeds assisted in determining the words of the song on the record,” stated a document on the online Vault of FBI records.

On May 13, 1964, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lester R. Irvin announced he would not prosecute in the case for that reason.
