An Emporium man is facing new criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a co-defendant last week in McKean County Jail.
Gregory Guy Burdick, 32, of Emporium, was jailed in March for allegations that he was involved in a methamphetamine lab in the borough.
At 4:15 p.m. April 5, while Burdick was incarcerated in McKean County Jail, he allegedly assaulted Darren David Donovan, 25, of Emporium, Kane-based state police reported on Wednesday.
Donovan, along with Trisha Dawn Wilkins, 33, of Emporium, were also charged in the original meth case.
After the alleged assault at the jail, the following charges were filed against Burdick in the Smethport office of District Judge William Todd: retaliation against a witness or victim, a third-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary charge, court records indicated.
According to court records, on March 7, police went to 60 Sycamore St., Emporium, looking for Donovan, as he was wanted on multiple bench warrants. While approaching the home, police found a soda bottle on the ground near the house that was identified as a container used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Wilkins, a tenant, repeatedly denied to police that Donovan was there, but she let them look after they made several requests to enter. Inside, they allegedly saw several examples of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Burdick was also in the residence near drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Police obtained a search warrant and served it at the house, where they found marijuana, meth, prescription pills and an unknown white powder, as well as a number of items used in the use, sale or manufacture of illegal substances, court records stated.
Burdick was not arraigned as of Wednesday night in the McKean County case.
He is jailed in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000 in the drug case, and he is scheduled for arraignment in Cameron County Court on Tuesday.
Donovan is incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail, and Wilkins is incarcerated in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
