The high winds Wednesday left behind power outages and significant damage to trees in the area.
The morning and early afternoon were the peak times for reported incidents.
Residents and business owners on East Main, Main, Davis, Florence and Kennedy streets, along with Charlotte Avenue, were among those who reported power outages.
According to a Penelec official, the area was a hot spot for power issues.
“Several outages occurred in the Bradford area. Ultimately, they impacted around 2,000 customers. Everyone has been restored (as of 2:30 p.m.),” said Scott Surgeoner of FirstEnergy.
Most of those outages were weather related, according to Surgeoner.
“Most were short in duration,” he noted. “There were about 30 outages in the Bradford area today.”
Surgeoner mentioned a few specific instances, noting one outage that started at 9 a.m. impacted 369 customers, with all customers’ power restored by 10:35 a.m.; another outage impacted 1,200 customers and began at 3:45 a.m., with power restored by 5:39 a.m.
Meanwhile, the thawed ground and recent warmer temperatures contributed to fallen trees as a result of the high winds.
Lafayette Township was called to a tree down in the Kennedy Springs area of U.S. Route 219 and Bradford Township was called to reports of a tree down on Minard Run Road, both shortly before 1:30 p.m. Other calls included a tree on lines on Songbird Road and low hanging wires on Summit Road later in the afternoon.
The high wind warning was in effect from 11:32 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the winds expected at 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts as high as 60 mph.
