The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center Chamber Concert Series will close its 2017-18 season with a solo recital by award-winning soprano Meghan DeWald.
DeWald, a resident of Pittsburgh, has performed throughout the United States including on the stages at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
DeWald earned her Doctor of Music in vocal performance and literature from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. She has performed extensively in operatic works from Mozart’s Requiem to Rossini’s Barber of Seville and is a champion of new music, enjoying collaborations with several contemporary composers. Prior to her move to Pittsburgh, DeWald performed under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland.
“Marilyn Horne has been a keen advocate of the art of vocal recital for decades. Her foundation has been dedicated to supporting youth seeking careers in the opera world,” said Matthew Hileman, manager of the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center. “I’m delighted to be offering a world-class vocalist for the finale of this series.”
The recital will take place at 3 p.m. April 15 in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford campus.
This will be the first of the six chamber concerts to take place on campus. The previous five have been held at Marilyn Horne Hall in downtown Bradford.
When asked why the venue had changed, Matthew Hileman commented, “This is a very special concert that requires a very special setting. The Wick chapel was designed for acoustic performances and the bright and airy space overlooking the woods is the perfect backdrop for a vocal recital.”
The recital, titled The Operatic Voice, is free and open to the public. The doors to the chapel will open at 2 p.m. and the performance will begin promptly at 3 p.m. Reservations are suggested but not required for this event.
