Owls win foul-filled contest against Raiders; Dutch stun ECC

BROOKVILLE — In a game that saw a combined 50 fouls between the two teams, Bradford was able to defeat Brookville 60-55 in Friday night’s D9 League contest.

Tyler Gigliotti went 13-of-15 from the line to finish with a team-high 21 points for Bradford, while Deondre Terwilliger had a nice all-around game finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

“(Gigliotti) played really well down the stretch,” BHS coach Brian Hobbs said. “He did a nice job at the line. We also had some guys come off the bench and give us some good minutes down the stretch. Adam Boyer hit some big free throws and Caleb Nuzzo had a few big ones as well in the third quarter. Guys just stepped up and knocked down free throws.”

The Owls held the Raiders to just five points in the third quarter thanks to some nice interior defense.

“Donny Pattison did a good job on Bryan Dworek (six points),” Hobbs said. “He did a good job for the duration on him.”

Aaron Park scored a game-high 24 points for Brookville (12-7, 3-5), while Trenton Gilhousen added 13.

Bradford (11-8 overall, 6-2 D9 League) now faces a huge game against Elk Catholic on Tuesday, as the Crusaders lost their first league game to St. Marys on Friday.

“All of the quad-A teams are right around each other; it’s a tight race,” Hobbs said. “The guys have to be composed and ready to battle.”

St. Marys 81, Elk Catholic 76

ST. MARYS — The Dutch netted one of the bigger upsets of the season on Friday, handing the Crusaders their first D9 League loss of the season as well as snapping their seven-game win streak.

Nathan Schneider paced the Dutch (11-8 overall, 5-6 D9 League) with 29 points, while Cahill Parish (18) and Austin Goodrow (13) also finished in double figures.

Alex Breindel led the Crusaders with 29 points, while Logan Hoffman had 17 and Leo Gregory had 11.

Elk Catholic (18-3 overall, 9-1 D9 League) will host Bradford on Tuesday.

    NORTH TIER LEAGUE

    Smethport 55, Oswayo Valley 45

SMETHPORT — Ian Woodruff paced the Hubbers with 17 points and Smethport sent its seniors out with a win over visiting Oswayo Valley.

The Green Wave had a four-point lead after the first quarter, but Smethport battled back and never trailed again after a strong second quarter.

“I thought we had real good intensity on Senior Night,” Smethport head coach Jay Acker said. “Our big guys played well, and Ian had monster game for us, especially in the second quarter. We put a full game together from start to finish which we’ve been struggling to do lately.”

Seniors Brayden Southard and Jordan VanGorder helped Smethport (10-9, 8-5) snap its four-game losing streak. Caleb Lutz and Eric Szarowicz were also in double figures for the Hubbers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Hubbers have three road games next week to close out the regular season, beginning with Port Allegany on Monday.

Oswayo Valley (11-10, 7-9) lost for the second night in a row despite five 3-pointers from Gavin Babcock, who finished with a team-high 20 points.

    Otto-Eldred 63, Port Allegany 59

DUKE CENTER — The Terrors eked out an important NTL win at home on Friday despite a 37-point performance from Port Allegany’s Howie Stuckey.

Sawyer Drummond had a monster game for the Terrors, finishing with 17 points and 20 rebounds, while Trey Dalton also notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Stuckey finished the game with a whopping eight 3-pointers to lead the Gators.

“It was a good win for us on senior night,” O-E coach Dan Dalton said, as the Terrors honored seniors Drummond, Dalton, Dylan Close, Nick York, and Jordan Sherwood.

Otto-Eldred (14-6 overall, 12-5 NTL) will visit Genesee Valley on Monday. Port Allegany (3-17, 2-12) will be right back at it again today when the Gators host Austin.

    Austin 77, Northern Potter 40

AUSTIN — Austin won its third-straight game in convincing fashion on Friday night to improve to 7-8 in NTL play.

Dempsey Glover and Blake Burgett paced Austin with 19 points, while Jackson Glover (12) and Dempsey Glover (11) also finished in double figures.

Holden Cowburn scored a game-high 22 points to lead Northern Potter.
