The laughter was rolling from members of the Women’s Literary Club and Current Events Club who were treated to improvisational performances Friday by the Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) group.
The performance, titled “A Romantic Interlude,” was held in conjunction with a Valentine’s Tea for the groups. Performers with BLT included Kristin Asinger, president of BLT; and Kim Nicholas, Tiffany Mager and John Kearns.
The event started out with the song, “My Funny Valentine” by Nicholas who was accompanied on piano by Kearns. Later, the group did a variety of funny improv skits from scenarios provided by the audience. At times audience members were also pulled into the performances.
Patti Neidich, vice president and program chairperson for the Literary Club, said she tries to find unusual and different entertainment for club members and found it with the BLT performance.
Neidich said she was pleasantly surprised to see one of the performers with BLT, Kim Nicholas, was a former first-grade student of hers from years ago. Neidich said Asinger was also in her husband Ross’ fifth-grade class during her elementary years.
“Back when they were in elementary school, you used to see signs they would be actresses,” Neidich said of Asinger and Nicholas. “It’s nice to see this now.”
Sue Wells, an audience member, said she enjoyed the event, noting, “It wasn’t what I expected.”
Another audience member, Linda Rook, said she also liked the show.
“I enjoyed it — it was something I’m not familiar with,” Rook commented.
After the performance, Asinger said the group is available to present improv skits to other organizations in the community.
“Improv shows are easy to put together” and can be booked on short notice, she said, noting donations to BLT are always welcomed by the non-profit organization.
On a related topic, Neidich said the literary club meets weekly from the beginning of October through the middle of March and new members are welcome. She said the group plays cards at Bradford Area Public Library once a month, conducts four luncheons a year and has guest speakers throughout the year.
The group also raises funds for charitable organizations, such as CASA, as well as for scholarships for Bradford Area High School students.
